A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Incredible Community
Dear Friends of the HSB,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce HSB, Inc. will be closing its doors in September 2026. After significant discussion, prayer, and careful evaluation, the Board and our original benefactor have made the difficult decision to begin the process of closing the Home School Building ministry.
HSB first opened its doors in 1999. Over the past twenty-seven years, we have had the privilege of serving thousands of homeschooling families through our bookstores, tutoring programs, special classes, athletics, fellowship opportunities, and many other ministry activities. What began as a vision to support and encourage home educators with information and networking became a place where families built friendships, students learned and grew, and countless lives were impacted for Christ.
During these twenty-seven years, the homeschooling landscape has changed dramatically. Today there are many additional educational resources available to families, including online curriculum providers, video-based learning, expanded extracurricular opportunities, and numerous homeschool support organizations. Today’s homeschool families can easily find the support they need from a wide array of options.
This decision was not made quickly or lightly. It comes after carefully reviewing our financial position, participation levels, facility needs, and the long-term sustainability of the ministry. In recent years, donations have declined significantly while building maintenance and operational costs have continued to increase. While this is not the outcome any of us had hoped for, we believe closing the HSB is the responsible path forward at this time.
We want to express our deepest gratitude for your support over the years. Thank you for choosing us, for recommending us to your friends, and for making us a part of your daily lives. Whether you were a regular face we saw every week or a first-time visitor, you brought life, joy, and purpose to the HSB.
Our Final Days
- We will remain open for regular business until Friday, September 4, 2026.
- Between now and then, we hope to help homeschooling families prepare for the upcoming school year by selling the remaining inventory from both bookstores.
- We invite you to stop by, shop our sales, and use any remaining gift cards.
We are committed to being good stewards of the resources God has entrusted to HSB throughout this process.

We are grateful for the 27 years of supporting and encouraging homeschoolers and for having been part of the legacy of building the homeschool community in West Michigan. We are deeply grateful for each one of you.
