In our twentieth year of ministry, we are both saddened and excited to share some of the big changes happening here at the HSB. The Resource Center (Library) began as a way for families to have access to materials for home education and enrichment. Fewer and fewer patrons are utilizing this resource each year, while expenses to provide it remain substantial.
Of the dwindling number of necessary donations received each year, this department takes the lion’s share of those monies just to keep it open. The continuing and staggering drop in general ministry donations has been the catalyst to this decision. Nonprofit ministries rely on annual donation monies to sustain their outreach. If those monies dwindle low enough to not even cover one ‘loss leader’ department, the longevity of that entire ministry is called into question.
In order to protect the longevity of the HSB, Inc. ministry as a whole, and the thousands of people who use our facility, we will be closing the Resource Center at the end of the 2018-2019 school-year. Over the summer, we will work to reopen that space as a HUGE used book store.
Having labored over this decision for the last couple of years, we are so thankful for the answer to prayer we believe this change will be. In the past, we’ve had only a few weeks each year we can offer this overflow of used materials. Creating this huge, year-round used book space will enable us to serve more families with a larger selection of materials for their families.
The HSB Bookstore will still offer the finest new curriculum and enrichment materials as well as offering a variety of premiere used goods. Between the HSB Bookstore and our new used store, Second Mouse Finds, we’ll have everything you need for a successful school-year! Both the HSB Bookstore and Second Mouse Finds will have uniform hours to serve you.
At close of business on May 17, 2019, the Resource Center will be closing so we can make the changes necessary to open Second Mouse Finds before the 2019-2020 school-year begins. We ask that families return materials before May 17, 2019. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming Doll Parties and Photo ID services. Thank you for your patience through these changes as well as your renewed commitment to generously and positively support this ministry as we enter our 20th school-year!
